New Book List for 2012-2013

A special thanks goes out to Kathy A. for braving the library bureaucracy and coming up with the following list of books for the coming year. I will post links to Reader's Guides as I come across them.

The names in parentheses indicate the discussion leader for the meeting. Feel free to volunteer to lead the discussion for those books not yet assigned or to trade with each other if you prefer.

Please note: December is intentionally left blank as it is such a busy month; and January has 2 books. In January, you may read either or both books. We will have a discussion of both books with a compare/contrast component for those who have read both.

June 13 - The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon (Janis)
July 11 - Time & Again by Jack Finney
August 8 - Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (Kearstie)
September 12 - The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan (Cindy)
October 10 - The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh (Janis)
November 14 - The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach
December 12 - THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK
January 9 - The Tin Roof Blowdown and Feast Day for Fools by James Lee Burke (Kathy)
February 13 - The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman
March 13 - Great Expectations by Charles Dickens (Carey)
April 10 - The Snowman by Jo Nesbo (Kathy)
May 8 - Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman ((Kearstie)

March Meeting Changes

Hello Everyone!

Cindy Dale has graciously offered to hostess the March meeting this Wednesday, March 14th, at 5:30.   Please contact her if you need directions or further information. The book for March is Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. A reader's guide can be found here.

Looking ahead, April's book will be April 11 and the book will be Room by Emma Donoghue. The reader's guide is here.

The May meeting will be held May 9 and the book will be Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris. Click here for the reader's guide.

May is currently the last month we have a book chosen for. Kathy Avellone and I are collecting titles for future months. Please send us a list of books for consideration. I will be posting the list in the near future.

Have a great meeting. I'll see you in April!

New Web Feature

Hello Everyone,

I started this blog as a way for members to easily share ideas and comment on books; not just the ones we are currently reading for book club. There will be an ongoing post that can be commented on at any time where you can suggest new books for the club to read. There could be another area that would allow discussion of books that aren't the "assigned" book. And there could be an area that members who can't attend a meeting can leave comments or questions on the book of the month. The idea here is to facilitate some discussion of the books and encourage reading, Feel free to leave a comment on this post if you'd like to suggest other features. I haven't decided yet whether this will replace the current Hot Bookworms web site. I'm also undecided whether this should be a closed site - open to club members only. Right now it is open to all. Please comment and let me know what you think.

Hope to hear from you!
